House Convenes to Vote for New Speaker—Day 3

The U.S. House of Representatives reconvenes at 12 p.m. on Jan. 5 to try to elect a leader after a small group of about 20 hardliners in the Republican majority party repeatedly blocked efforts to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as the speaker, a position second in line to the presidency.
