The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies rose 8.23 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,287.94.

For the year:

The S&P 500 is up 184.81 points, or 3.1 percent.

The Dow is up 1,926.19 points, or 4.5 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 403.48 points, or 2.1 percent.

The Russell 2000 is up 57.78 points, or 2.6 percent.
