Actor Will Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences following an incident on Sunday night where he slapped comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
“I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work,” Smith said in a statement to several news outlets.
