Will Smith Bungee Jumps Over Grand Canyon out of Helicopter to Celebrate 50th Birthday

Actor Will Smith celebrated his 50th birthday on Sept. 25 by bungee jumping out of a helicopter into the Grand Canyon, with his whole family witnessing the epic moment.

The actor live-streamed the jump on his YouTube channel, and Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, his sons Trey and Jaden, and his daughter Willow watched the 1000-foot jump, according to People.

Smith recalled during the live stream, “[When I was younger, my family and I], we drove to the Grand Canyon and I remember having a deeply meaningful experience of how beautiful it was but I was terrified of walking to the edge.”

“All my family walked up to the edge but I stayed back, too scared to take in the beauty. I’ve made it a point in my life to attack anything that I’m scared of.”

Smith was challenged to make the jump by Yes Theory, a group that encourages people to go outside of their comfort zones. Smith arrived at The Grand Canyon with fans cheering.

Just as Smith was about to get on the helicopter, he admitted to his stunt coordinator, “I got a little shakiness.”

She comforted him by saying, “In all the years I’ve known you, you are physically and mentally ready for this. So have fun.”

“It’s like the whole Grand Canyon is mine. It’s like no one will ever have that view,” Smith added, “It’s almost like you need the terror to experience the bliss. It’s spectacular! I would definitely do it again! It’s spectacular.”

People reported the live stream was a part of an initiative to raise awareness of global poverty and hunger.
