The mystery TV series “Veronica Mars” has been resurrected by Hulu, after being cancelled in 2007.
“We are OFFICIALLY back in business!!!” Kristen Bell, who plays the lead character Veronica Mars, announced on Instagram on Sept. 20. “A new #veronicamars series is coming back, on @hulu !!!!”
In the series storyline, Mars is a high school student, whose best friend is murdered and her father voted out as the local sheriff for suspicious reasons. She then started investigating, under her father’s guidance, mysterious events in their affluent seaside town called Neptune.
“Veronica has always been a super hero without a Cape. And I think she’s exactly what the world needs right now,” Kristen Bell said on Instagram. “As of summer 2019, all of the old Veronica Mars episodes will be available on Hulu, to stream, and rewatch, which is great.”
The creator of the show, Rob Thomas, will write the first episode. He and Bell will co-produce the new episodes, along with Diane Ruggiero-Wright and Dan Etheridge. There will be a total of eight episodes and it is estimated to debut in 2019.
Here is a sneak preview:
“Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry,” according to a press release. “After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into an epic eight-episode mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.”
Hulu hasn’t yet set an exact date for the new series debut.
