The First Full Trailer for ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Is Here

Disney just provided a new look at the sequel to one of its most successful films of all time, the magical 1964 musical “Mary Poppins.”

The first full-length trailer for “Mary Poppins Returns,” starring Emily Blunt in Julie Andrews’s classic role, was released on Sept. 17.

The film is set 25 years after the former film. After a family tragedy, Poppins flies back into the lives of the Banks family in much the same way as before. However, this time, her mission is to look after the three children of Michael Banks, who was a young boy in the original movie.

As an adult, Banks, played by Ben Whishaw, is shocked to see his former nanny again.

“You seem hardly to have aged at all,” he says.

“Really? One never discusses a woman’s age, Michael,” replies Poppins. “Would’ve hoped I taught you better.”

The new cast stars Meryl Streep as a new character, Topsy, as well as Lin-Manuel Miranda, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth, and Emily Mortimer. Julie Andrews reportedly turned down a chance to star in the new film, however, Dick Van Dyke returns as the son of his famous comedic role of Mr. Dawes.

Rob Marshall, from “Into the Woods” and “Chicago” will direct the film, and David Magee wrote the screenplay, according to Variety.

The creators and stars of the original “Mary Poppins” were the winners of numerous awards, including five Academy Awards. Julie Andrews won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for best actress.

“Mary Poppins Returns” will open in theaters on Dec. 19.
