‘Star Trek’ Actor Rene Auberjonois Dead at 79: Reports

Rene Auberjonois, who appeared as Odo on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and a number of other TV and film productions, has died at age 79, it was reported.

He died Sunday at his home in Los Angeles of metastatic lung cancer, his son, Remy Auberjonois, told The Associated Press.
Other than “Star Trek,” he appeared in “Murder, She Wrote,” “The Jeffersons,” “The Outer Limits,” “L.A. Law,” “Stargate SG-1,” “Frasier,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” according to his IMDB page.

“I am all of those characters, and I love that,” Auberjonois said in a 2011 interview, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ”I also run into people, and they think I’m their cousin or their dry cleaner. I love that, too.”

He also performed voice roles, such as in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” as well as others.

According to Variety, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith Auberjonois, and two children.

He was remembered by “Deep Space Nine” co-star Armin Shimerman, who played Quark.

“It is with great heartache and loss I share with you the passing of dear,dear Rene Auberjonois.His last message to me was entitled ‘Don’t forget....’ I know that I,Kitty,and all that knew him will never forget.The world seems noticeably emptier now. I loved him,” Shimerman wrote on Twitter.

William Shatner, who appeared in a number of “Star Trek” projects, issued a statement about his death, as well.

“I have just heard about the death of my friend and fellow actor @reneauberjonois. To sum up his life in a tweet is nearly impossible. To Judith, Tessa & Remy I send you my love & strength. I will keep you in my thoughts and remember a wonderful friendship with René,” he wrote.

Actor Edward James Olmos also mourned his death.

“Rene Auberjonois a true gentleman & passionate artist passed onto the next understanding & we will miss him so much. I was honored to have worked with him on Windows On The World, his second to last film. He delivered an amazing rendition of NY NY—a brilliant artist #sswa #RIP,” he wrote.

A number of other actors issued statements on social media following his passing.
Last week, an actor who appeared in the first season of “Star Trek,” Robert Walker Jr., died, it was reported.
