Selena Gomez recently reached billionaire status but remains humble when discussing the subject.

The actress, singer, and entrepreneur stepped out at the 62nd New York Film Festival for the premiere of her new film “Emilia Pérez,” which will be released in U.S. theaters on Nov. 1. When asked about her feelings on achieving the monetary milestone, Gomez said she was “grateful” but would rather not discuss the matter.

“I’m very grateful,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I personally think it’s distasteful to talk about money, but I really am giving all the credit to the people who buy the products. They’re the ones that made this dream of mine come true.

“So I’m really really honored and just happy.”

On Sep. 6, Bloomberg declared that Gomez reached a net worth of $1.3 billion, earning her a rank on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index for the first time. According to the report, the “vast bulk” of her wealth is attributed to her cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty.
Rare Beauty was founded by the “Who Says” star in 2020 and has become a success with fans and influencers worldwide. The brand’s best-selling blush brought in $70 million in yearly revenue last year, as reported by Bloomberg.

In May, Gomez opened up about her aim to sell her products in tandem with promoting natural beauty.

“I hope I don’t, and I hope Rare Beauty doesn’t, give off the vibe that you have to do anything,” she told Time Magazine before adding her thoughts about societal judgment on those who embrace their imperfections.

The “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum also addressed rumors about her selling the company.

“I don’t have any plans on that, genuinely,” she said before sharing that she’s currently planning products for the upcoming years.

“I will admit it overwhelms me sometimes. I have this weird thing in my head where if I focus on the numbers, I’ll lose whatever it is that made Rare Beauty Rare Beauty. I never wanted it to be about making a lot of money and that’s it.”

Created alongside the cosmetic line was The Rare Impact Fund, an initiative to raise awareness about mental health issues. Last year, the fund raised $7 million and made an impact on five continents, according to its website.
“By celebrating everyone’s uniqueness and making people feel more connected, Rare Beauty works to reduce the stigma associated with mental health and give people access to the resources they need to support their mental well-being,” the website reads.

Child Star

Selena Gomez was born on July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie, Texas, to Mandy Teefy, a former stage actress who had her at the age of 16. In 2011, Gomez opened up about the struggles her mother faced to provide for her.
“Having me at sixteen had to have been a big responsibility,” she told E! Entertainment. “My mom gave up everything for me and had, like, three jobs. She supported me, sacrificed her life for me.”

Gomez came into stardom at an early age, beginning her acting career in the children’s show “Barney & Friends” at 10 years old. After leaving the program, she appeared on Disney Channel shows including “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “Hannah Montana.”

In 2007, Gomez got her breakthrough when she starred as Alex Russo on Disney Channel’s fantasy show “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Among its several awards and nominations, the show won the “Outstanding Children’s Program” Emmy Award in 2009.  Due to her success in the role, Gomez became a “teen idol” and one of the 10 highest-paid child actors on television in 2010.

Alongside television, Gomez had starring roles in several films, including 2008’s “Another Cinderella Story,” 2009’s “Princess Protection Program,” 2010’s “Ramona and Beezus,” and 2012’s “Spring Breakers.” The Disney Channel alum also served as executive producer for the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why,” an adaptation of the 2007 novel by Brian Yorkey.

Gomez also found success in the music industry, forming the pop-rock band “Selena Gomez & The Scene” in 2008. The group went on to release three studio albums, all of which were certified gold or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America. As a solo artist, Gomez released three albums, which included hit songs such as 2013’s “Come and Get It,” 2015’s “Same Old Love,” and 2020’s “Lose You to Love Me.”

Gomez’s most recent ventures and projects include her cosmetic line Rare Beauty, her lead role in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” and the Spanish musical crime film “Emilia Pérez,” releasing in U.S. theaters on Nov. 1.
