Roseanne Barr told Dr. Oz in clips released on Sept. 17 and 18 that she will go to Israel before ABC broadcasts the sitcom spinoff to her cancelled show.
The show was cancelled after Barr sent out a tweet that many media outlets labeled as racist.
Roseanne said she did not know the race of former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, and so didn’t aim the tweet at her race, but at her politics.
“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” wrote Barr in the tweet.
The tweet was seen as racist because of the “ape” reference, being that Jarett is part black.
Hollywood further ostracizes Barr
Barr was criticized in a comedic dialogue by 70th Emmy Awards hosts Micheal Che and Colin Jost on Sept. 17.“You know I heard Roseanne is actually moving to Israel,” said Che. “How messed up is your life when you have to go to the Middle East just to get peace of mind.”
In other jokes aimed at Roseanne, the duo further criticized the actor to an audience of laughing Hollywood royalty.
Che congratulated Laurie Metcalf for her nomination on the now-cancelled “Roseanne” reboot before comparing it to “nominating a cop for a BET award.”
Jost also joked that the cancelled Roseanne sitcom has now been picked up by “white nationalists.”
On the Dr. Oz show, Roseanne reiterated that she is not a racist and that the tweet was misinterpreted. When asked how it came about, Roseanne said she had been posting a series of tweets about the Iran deal and its implications for Jewish people.
“And that’s very painful for a nation that just had a genocide.”
