Johann Johannsson, an Academy Award-nominated composer, died at the age of 48.
Johannsson was nominated for Oscar, BAFTA, and Grammy awards for his 2014 score to “The Theory of Everything,” was nominated for an Oscar for “Sicario,” and was nominated for Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Grammys for his score to “Arrival” in 2016.
He also released a number of albums, which blended electronic music and conventional orchestral music.
The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our client and dear friend Johann Johannsson, whose great talent, humility and kindness enriched our lives immeasurably. His music has inspired many new generations of filmmakers and composers. He will be so greatly missed by his Gorfaine/Schwartz family as well as the entire film music community,” Deadline reported.
Husom also said, “I’m so very sad. Today, I lost my friend who was one of the most talented musicians and intelligent people I knew. We came a long way together.”
He is survived by his parents, a daughter, and three sisters.
