Pop singer Britney Spears reportedly checked into a mental health facility because she is distraught over her father’s health condition.
TMZ on April 3 reported that the “Baby One More Time” singer checked herself into a facility about a week ago and will live there for 30 days.
On the same day, Spears wrote on Instagram: “We all need to take time for a little ‘me time.’ :).”
She has not publicly commented on the TMZ report.
Sources told the entertainment news outlet that Spears, 37, “has been distraught over her dad’s illness,” and it’s not clear what it is, but it is “not getting better.”
“Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her,” a source close to her told People magazine. “He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well. They’re so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her—she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself.”
Her father has had two surgeries on his intestines and colon, but he reportedly is suffering from complications, the TMZ report noted.
Spears, in an Instagram post in January, made a comment about her father’s health and posted an old photo of her family.
“A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time,” she wrote.
At the time, Spears also announced she was postponing her Las Vegas show, “Domination.”
“I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first,” she said, adding, “I hope you all can understand.”
“I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always,” the singer added.
And regarding her family, Spears also told People magazine that she puts them first.
“My kids come first in my life, bottom line,” Spears said in 2015. In the same article, her mother, Lynne, told the magazine: “I am so proud of my daughter and all her accomplishments, but I am especially proud of the mom she is and the woman she has become.”
