Acclaimed playwright David Mamet recently spoke out against Democrats and the left in general for betraying the Jewish people in the wake of Hamas’ murderous attacks in Israel.

The Glengarry Glen Ross screenwriter made the comments in a recent essay for the British news and opinion website UnHerd.

In it, he specifically called out liberal American Jews who have voted Democrat for generations and are still devoted to a party that he says is clearly siding against them.

“Still, today, Jews vote Democratic: electing Presidents who refused to meet with the Israeli Prime Minister (Obama and Biden) in times of ‘peace,’ who gave and give aid to the terrorist state of Iran in exchange for some semi-specified ‘deal.’ American ‘Aid’ to Iran pays for the equipment and ordinance, which is, at this moment, eradicating Jews.”

It’s not the first time the 75-year-old Mr. Mamet has voiced his opinions, which often go against Hollywood’s liberal grain.

In recent years, Mr. Mamet has spoken exclusively with the right-leaning Breitbart News. In a 2020 interview, he said Donald Trump was a “great president,” describing the liberal reaction to his presidency as “psychotic.”

“Mamet came out of the closet as a conservative-leaning artist several years ago, so his new comments aren’t so surprising,” said Christian Toto, host of the Hollywood in Toto podcast, noting Mr. Mamet is impervious to attacks on him now given his status. “When he speaks he is cautious and thoughtful. No hot takes here! Age helps, too. The older you get, the less you care about how others perceive you. What does he have left to prove at this point?”

Mr. Toto’s point is well-taken since Mr. Mamet in his letter went so far as to draw a historical line from the Gaza hospital hoax to centuries of Jewish libel, dating back to ancient times. He specifically noted how Democrat representatives refuse to recant the libel that Israel bombed the hospital, despite visual analysis and evidence that it was actually a rocket from Gaza that appeared to go astray, according to a story by the Associated Press and other media outlets.

“But there is no more cosy mystery in the antisemitism of the Democratic Party; Representatives are affiliated with the Democratic Socialists and pro-Palestinians, calling for the end of the state of Israel—that is, for the death of the Jews,” wrote Mr. Mamet. “And Democrat Representatives repeat and refuse to retract the libel that Israel bombed a hospital, in spite of absolute proof to the contrary, and will not call out the unutterable atrocities of Hamas. The writing is on the wall. In blood.”

Mr. Mamet concludes his commentary by bringing up the leftist media’s role in the conflict.

“The world’s Leftist media calls for the chastisement of Israel and support for Palestine, while those who consider themselves mere ‘liberals’ moderate their cowardice by calling for a ’ceasefire'—which is to say, a pause while Hamas re-arms.”

Said Toto about how celebrities in leftist Tinseltown may respond, “There’s no easy win for Hollywood stars here. The industry is re-flexibly liberal, and liberals side with the Palestinians on many issues.”

He also noted how the consumption of progressive media by liberal Hollywood types often hides inconvenient facts.

“The New York Times’ coverage of the bombed hospital hoax, along with how other mainstream outlets reported on the matter, is a prime example,” said Toto.

“Stars virtue signal on social media to build their brand and seek new gigs. Blasting Hamas for torture doesn’t help on either front,” he said.
