Pat Boone has seen firsthand the highs and lows of Hollywood success throughout his decades long career in the entertainment industry, and believes many films have failed due to lack of faith and positivity.

The 90-year-old made those remarks during an interview with Fox News Digital on the red carpet for the 32nd Annual MovieGuide Awards.

“People waste millions making sordid, corrupt films that fail. Once in a while they get big, to the sorrow of all of us,” said Boone.

“But if you want to make a successful, profitable film, make it family friendly, make it faith friendly, make it a good story, and do it well, and you’ve got a great shot.”

The MovieGuide Awards gathers celebrities and industry leaders to celebrate and honor faith, values-driven entertainment, and family films—something Boone said proves “can make money” and “be prosperous.”
Wearing many hats as a singer-songwriter, actor and author, Boone made his first professional recording debut in 1955 and appeared in over 40 television and movies over the course of his career.

However, he notes the current state of Hollywood differs from his experience, criticizing the production content of recent films that put our nation in a negative light.

“We used to be the best commercial for America in the world, we made good films and we always made America look great. We became the envy of the rest of the world,” he said.

“We gotta start and continue to produce really good positive things that make people glad to be alive and not afraid to be or sorry to be alive.”

Grounded in his faith and love for America, Boone released his single “Where Did America Go?” in 2024, in an effort to portray how he was feeling through music.
The song is described as a way to call on Americans to “come back together in the way that we were” when the nation first came to be.

Boone remains adamant that by doing good, prosperity will follow and believes embracing your faith and success goes hand-in-hand.

“I make movies and I sing and I do all the things I’ve done as a career because I like doing it. But, of course, you like it a lot better if it’s successful,” he said.

“But faith-based films, and even for that matter, music, television all does better with families in mind, if children are in mind, and if something in your heart communicates that you want the best and not the worst.”

As a devout Christian, Boone never steered away from his beliefs, singing, or acting style but rather found an audience that he was well-suited for.

He sold millions of records with a number of hit songs including “Moody River,” “Speedy Gonzales,” and “Bernadine.”

“You won’t always make money doing whatever it takes, no, if you want to prosper, you want to prosper doing good,” he added. “It pays to find the goodness in our God-ness. It would be better if we’re godly.”

The MovieGuide Awards is set to air on March 6 at 8 p.m. EST on the Great American Family channel.
