“Shallow” Wins Best Original Song Oscar
“Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” has won the Academy Award for best original song.“Shallow” was written by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper perform it in the film. The song won two Grammy Awards earlier this month.
Gaga effusively thanked the academy and her co-winners, as well her sister and Cooper.
She says it was not about winning, but it was about not giving up and all the times people have to get up after they are knocked down.
Best Supporting Actress
Regina King won the Oscar for best supporting actress on Sunday for her role as a mother trying to look out for her pregnant daughter in “If Beale Street Could Talk.”
It was the first Oscar for King, 48, who began her career in Hollywood more than three decades ago as a teenager on the 1980s sitcom “227.” It was also her first nomination.
King wiped tears from her face as she accepted her award, thanking her mother who was attending the ceremony with her.
“I’m an example of what it looks like when support and love is poured into someone,” King said. “Mom, I love you so much.”
In the Barry Jenkins-directed “Beale Street”, King plays the mother of a pregnant young woman whose future is ruined when her boyfriend is imprisoned for a crime he did not commit.
A prolific actress known for her mix of grit and warmth, King for decades has been a fixture on television and in movies, largely in supporting roles. Her breakout film role came in 1996 when she played the wife of Cuba Gooding Jr.’s character in “Jerry Maguire.”
This was the first Oscar nomination for King, who has claimed three Emmy Awards in recent years. She also won a Golden Globe Award earlier this year for her “Beale Street” role.
King has also been an outspoken advocate for gender and ethnic diversity in Hollywood. In her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, she pledged that women would make up half of the staff on all of her projects in the next two years, saying “it’s going to be tough.”

Other films of director Alfonso Cuaron have won Academy Awards, but “Roma” now becomes the first film from Mexico to win the Oscar for best foreign language film. The movie’s dialogue is in Spanish and Mixtec.
‘Black Panther’ takes 2 awards early in Oscars
“Black Panther,” which is aiming to become the first superhero film to win best picture, won two awards early at 91st Academy Awards for the lush, big-budget craft of Ryan Coogler’s Marvel epic.
“Black Panther” won for Ruth Carter’s costume design and Hannah Beachler’s production design at Sunday’s Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Beachler had been the first African-American to ever be nominated in the category. In a teary acceptance speech, she thanked Coogler for his faith and support.
Carter, a veteran costume designer, also won her first Academy Award following two previous nominations.
‘Free Solo’ Wins Documentary Feature at the Oscars
The film about Alex Honnold’s first ever free solo climb Yosemite’s El Capitan Wall won the Academy Award for documentary feature on Feb. 24.Directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin accepted the award and thanked Honnold for “teaching us how to believe in the impossible”.
