The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death for Bobbie Jean Carter, aged 41, former makeup artist and sister of the late Aaron Carter and Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter.

According to reports from E! News and People, the medical examiner concluded that Ms. Carter’s death resulted from intoxication due to a combination of fentanyl and methamphetamine. The incident has been ruled as accidental.

The Epoch Times has sought comment from the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office regarding the findings.

Ms. Carter was discovered unresponsive at her residence in Tampa, Florida, on December 23. Emergency services found her in a bathroom, and she was subsequently pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Hospital at 8:02 a.m.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, in a statement to USA TODAY on December 27, stated that during their investigation, it was revealed that Ms. Carter was on probation for cocaine possession. However, her roommates reported that she had not used narcotics since her release from prison.

Her passing comes a little over a year after her younger brother Aaron Carter’s death at the age of 34 in Southern California.

Angel Carter, Bobbie’s sister, confirmed her passing on her official Instagram page on Dec. 24, sharing childhood photos and a heartfelt tribute. Nick Carter also paid homage to his sister on Jan. 4 via Instagram, expressing his deep sorrow and love for her.

“Thank you for all your love and kind words. We are reminded again that life is precious, fleeting, and to cherish the time we have with the ones we love. I know she is finally at peace with God. I love you BJ,” Nick wrote.

Carter Family’s Troubled History:

Nick Carter found himself in a legal tangle back in 2002 when he was 21 years old. The incident occurred at a nightclub in Tampa, Florida, named Pop City, where Carter was involved in a heated argument with an unidentified woman. Local police intervened after Carter repeatedly refused to comply with their requests to calm down and leave. Despite multiple warnings, Carter remained defiant, prompting law enforcement to take action.

In a separate incident in March 2005, Nick Carter faced legal troubles again when he was arrested for drunk driving in Huntington Beach, California. The arrest followed a routine traffic stop where Carter failed a field sobriety test. He was subsequently charged with a misdemeanor DUI and released after several hours in custody.

Following the arrest, a representative for Mr. Carter issued a statement indicating that the singer was prescribed medication and unaware of its interaction possibilities.  Mr. Carter later pleaded not guilty to the DUI-related charges and was ordered to pay fines and enroll in a three-month alcohol treatment program as part of his probation.

Amidst Nick Carter’s legal battles, his siblings Aaron Carter and Bobbie Jean Carter faced their own set of challenges. Aaron, a former child pop star, struggled with substance abuse and legal issues throughout his adult life. In November 2022, Aaron passed away at the age of 34, found dead in his bathtub at his Lancaster, California, home. Police sources revealed the presence of prescription pills and drug paraphernalia at the scene, and the exact cause of death was attributed to drowning after inhaling a gas known as difluoroethane and taking Xanax.

Similarly, Bobbie Jean Carter, sister to Nick and Aaron, encountered difficulties in her life. On Dec. 23, 2023, Bobbie Jean passed away in Florida at the age of 41. Her death marked another devastating loss for the Carter family, coming just over a year after Aaron’s untimely demise.
