Kim Kardashian announced on Monday that she passed California’s “baby bar” exam, moving the reality television star one step closer to achieving her goal of becoming an attorney.
The California “baby bar” is the state’s First-Year Law Students’ Examination—a daylong test required of aspiring lawyers in the state who are not taking the traditional path of attending an accredited law school.
Kardashian, a mother-of-four passed on her fourth attempt. Clearing the hurdle means she can continue her legal studies and will be able to take the full bar exam.
She said on Twitter that she had failed the exam three times in two years. California typically allows people to take the First-Year Law Students’ Examination just three times but gave anyone who failed the June 2020 exam one extra try due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“But I got back up each time and studied harder and tried again until I did it!!! (I did have COVID on the 3rd try w a 104 fever but I’m not making excuses),” she wrote.
“In California, the way I’m studying law you need to take 2 bar exams, this was just the first one but with the harder pass rate. I was told by top lawyers that this was a close to impossible journey and harder than the traditional law school route,” she told her 70.7 million followers. “But it was my only option and it feels so so sooooo good to be here and on my way to achieving my goals.”
Kardashian thanked commentator Van Jones, who pushed her to sign up for law school.
“I appreciate u for letting me tag along & ask all of the little questions along the way,” she wrote.
She said in 2019 that she was studying to become a lawyer through what is known as the Law Office Study Program, in which would-be attorneys train under the supervision of an experienced lawyer or judge.
California is among the handful of states that has such a program and is the only one with a baby bar.
Pass rate information was not yet available for the Oct. 26 exam that Kardashian took, but only 21 percent of those who took the exam in June passed—less than half the rate for the state’s most recent regular bar exam.
Paying tribute to her late father, she said: “My dad would be so proud & he would actually be so shocked to know that this is my path now but he would’ve been my best study partner.”
“I am told he was notorious for making fun of people who didn’t pass on their first attempt like him, but he would’ve been my best cheerleader!”
Her father Robert Kardashian was on O.J. Simpson’s defense team during his 1995 murder trial. Kardashian has previously said that she wants to become a lawyer to work on criminal justice reform.
Kardashian added, “Bottom line is don’t ever give up even when you are holding on by a thread, you can do it!!!!! Set your mind to it and get it done because it feels soooooo good once you get to the other side!”
