Pop superstar Justin Timberlake was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated in New York state, officials said Tuesday.
The arrest occurred Monday in Sag Harbor, located on New York’s Long Island, officials with the Sag Harbor Police Department told several news outlets on Tuesday. The Epoch Times contacted the department for comment.
Mr. Timberlake was expected to be arraigned in Sag Harbor, on the eastern end of Long Island, according to a statement from the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
A spokesperson for Sag Harbor Justice Court told CNN and other outlets that he will make an appearance at the Sag Harbor Justice Court on Tuesday.
The Sag Harbor Police spokesperson said that a statement about the arrest will be issued later on Tuesday.
Further details were not provided about his arrest, including why he was stopped or what kind of vehicle he was driving.
Mr. Timberlake, who was formerly in the pop group NSYNC, has several concerts in Chicago this weekend and two performances in New York City next week, according to his website
The singer is currently on tour to support his “Everything I Thought It Was” album, which was released in March.
The Epoch Times contacted a spokesperson for Mr. Timberlake for comment on Tuesday. He has not released a public statement about the allegations.
Sag Harbor is a village located in the eastern section of Long Island near the posh Hamptons area.
In New York state, a DWI can result in possible jail time, a loss of driving privileges, and fines, according to the New York Courts website. Like in other states, having a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more can result in a DWI arrest, the courts say.
A young Timberlake was a Disney Mouseketeer, where his castmates included future girlfriend Britney Spears. He rose to fame in the popular boy band NSYNC and embarked on a solo recording career in 2002.
As an actor, Mr. Timberlake has won acclaim in movies including “The Social Network” and “Friends With Benefits.” He has won ten Grammy awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards.
Last year, Mr. Timberlake was in the headlines when Ms. Spears released her memoir, “The Woman in Me.” Several chapters are devoted to their relationship, including deeply personal details about a pregnancy and a painful breakup. In March, he released his first new album in six years, the nostalgic “Everything I Thought It Was,” a return to his familiar future funk sound.
