After losing a transformative 30 pounds, former “Home Improvement” star Richard Karn is looking to shift his focus to other endeavors, rather than being defined by his diet.
In an interview with Fox News Digital published April 23, the 69-year-old warned of the dangers of a strict diet and exercise regimen despite the health benefits.
“When something’s that strict, it can’t, for me, become a whole lifestyle,” he told the outlet. “I mean, you have to go, ‘Well, you know what? I really would enjoy this piece of cake, or I would like a slice of pizza.’

“It’s like everything within moderation, obviously. I mean Oscar Wilde said anything worth doing is worth doing to excess. But I think that can get a lot of people in trouble,” he continued.

“It becomes manic in a sense, but you do feel better. Your doctor is happier, and your clothes fit better when you do pay attention to certain things.”

Last year, the actor, alongside his wife of 40 years, followed a low- or almost no-carb diet that included smaller portion sizes of 4 ounces of meat, 4 ounces of vegetables, and lots of water.

“You can get in trouble with drinking too much water,” he told Fox. “That flushes out some of the salts and things in your system, so when you take things too far, you just have to pay attention, kind of like with your yard.”

Karn, best known for his role on the hit ‘90s sitcom “Home Improvement” starring Tim Allen, recently teamed up with “DoMyOwn,” a do-it-yourself lawn care and pest control company that focuses on engaging and educating homeowners.

“Taking care of your lawn shouldn’t feel like a mystery,” he said in a press release.

“I’m thrilled to team up with DoMyOwn and help homeowners take control of their lawns. With the right products and guidance, anyone can grow and maintain a lawn they’re proud of.”

Karn will act as chief solutions officer and hopes to help others with their landscaping needs with the same dedication he devoted to his weight loss journey.

“I’ve always appreciated beautiful, beautiful landscaping, gardens, things like that,” he told Fox.

“I grew up in Seattle. Seattle is a big town for that, taking care of your lawn, taking care of the flowers, and around your house. I think that’s important because it shows that you care, that you’re making an effort keeping that routine.”
