TV personality Sean Lowe is recovering after being attacked multiple times by his rescue dog, Moose, last week, leaving him “fighting” for his life.
Lowe, 41, shared a video to Instagram on Monday recounting the harrowing ordeal. He was joined by his wife, Catherine Giudici, 38, whom he met on the 17th season of “The Bachelor,” which aired in 2013. The couple shares three children: Samuel, 8, Isaiah, 6, and Mia, 5.
At the time, the former reality star was hosting a barbecue on his patio while his wife and kids were at the mall. Smoke from the grill wafted inside and set off his fire alarms, which agitated Moose, a 7-year-old boxer.
Lowe attempted to clear the smoke by waving a dish rag, prompting Moose to nip at his hands. The dog began biting his feet, putting holes in his shoes.
“There’s so much chaos going on with the alarm going off. I give him a very stern, like, ‘Moose, no, no!’ And it was right about that moment where he shows his teeth at me and just attacks me,” Lowe recounted.
“And I feel him just kind of ripping into the flesh of my arm, and at this point, I am doing everything I possibly can just to fend this dog off.”
Lowe, who was bleeding badly from his arm, managed to get Moose into his backyard. However, before he could close the door, the dog lunged back inside and attacked him a second time.
‘A Switch Flipped’
Following the attack, Lowe’s friends rushed him to the emergency room, where he received stitches in “five or six” places on his arm.The next morning, as Lowe was arranging to have Moose relocated, the dog attacked him again.
“Going through a dog attack is pretty darn traumatic,” he said. “Having to relive it less than 12 hours later—seeing that dog running straight at you is a feeling that I don’t think I ever want to experience again.”
Although he had to make a second trip to the emergency room, Lowe said he didn’t fault his dog for the attacks.
“I don’t blame Moose a bit ... it wasn’t Moose’s fault,” he said. “He, I think it’s clear, experienced a lot of trauma before we got him and had something neurologically wrong with him, where just a switch flipped, and he turned into an absolute killer.”
According to Lowe, Moose did not exhibit any signs of aggressive behavior prior to the attacks.
“He was great around my kids, he was great in the house—he was just an affectionate lovable boxer,” the former reality star shared.
Despite his injuries, Lowe said he was still an advocate of animal adoption, noting that “a lot of great dogs” need loving homes.
Overall, the television personality said he was grateful that Moose attacked him and not his wife or kids.
“Our family has been through it the last few days but we’ll be okay,” he wrote in the video’s caption. “Thank you to everyone for the support. We’re very grateful.”
Lowe and his wife shared news of the boxer’s adoption on Instagram earlier this year.
“Santa and Daddy took the kids’ requests for a dog for Christmas into consideration. We are happy to add this 7 year old (we think) rescue boxer into our zoo. We hope he loves us as much as we have already grown to love him.”
