Singer Eddie Money revealed he’s in the midst of battling stage 4 esophageal cancer in a new clip from his AXS TV series Real Money.

“I thought I was going in for a check-up and [the doctor] told me I have cancer,” Money said in the clip.

His wife, Laurie Money, clarified that he was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer.

“We found out that I had cancer and that it was stage 4 and that it was in my liver and my lymph nodes and a little bit in my stomach… It hit me really, really hard,” Money continued in the clip.

“What I don’t want to do is, I don’t want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody, I feel like people, it’s not honest,” he said. “I want to be honest with everybody.”

He added that cancer treatments have come a long way since the 50s and 60s.

“Am I gonna live a long time? Who knows. It’s in God’s hands, but you know what I'll take every day I can get. Every day above ground is a good day,” he said.

Esophageal Cancer

Esophageal cancer, or cancer in the esophagus, “usually begins in the cells that line the inside of the esophagus,” according to MayoClinic. It’s the “sixth most common cause of cancer deaths worldwide” and occurs more commonly in men than women, according to the site.

Money, who rose to fame in the 70s and 80s with hits such as “Two Tickets To Paradise” and “Take Me Home Tonight,” is currently recovering from a heart valve procedure from June, not related to his cancer.

He first alerted fans about the procedure back in May.

“Hey everyone—I will be undergoing a minor, minimally invasive heart valve surgery this week. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. I look forward to getting back on stage and rockin' with you all! Sincerely, the Money Man,” he wrote on Twitter on May 28.

On June 6, the family issued a statement, writing on Twitter: “The Money Family appreciates and is very grateful for the thoughts and prayers of Eddie’s friends and fans as he continues to recuperate from his heart valve procedure.

“He looks forward to getting back on the road very soon, but in the meantime, he hopes that you'll all join him this Sunday watching one of his personal favorite episodes of #RealMoney when the Moneys head to Deadwood, South Dakota for some forced family fun!!”

His latest update following the heart valve procedure came on July 11.

“Hey everyone - the Money family wanted to give a quick update,” the family wrote in a statement on Twitter. “Eddie is recovering and doing well, but has decided to postpone all tour dates and the album release. While it was a very hard decision to make, focusing on Eddie’s health is the most important thing to the family at the moment.

“Eddie can’t wait to get back out there on stage and share new music with you! Thank you all for your love and support, it means the world.”
