Two Congressmen say the New York Times should fire a political editor who made a series of online posts about Jews, including one that said: “one of my resolutions is to be less anti-Semitic.”
Tom Wright-Piersanti made a slew of posts on his Twitter page that share antisemitic and racist sentiments.
He wrote on Jan. 1, 2010: “I was going to say ‘Crappy Jew Year,’ but one of my resolutions is to be less anti-Semitic. So... HAPPY Jew Year. You Jews.”
On Dec. 15, 2009, he posted a picture of a vehicle with what appeared to be a Menorah and wrote, “Who called the Jew-police?”
Others included racist sentiments against Native Americans, Asians, and Indians.
“It is a human problem. We see it in the U.S., in Germany, in Europe—everywhere. But when antisemitic comments like these come from a New York Times newsroom insider, it is very troubling—especially because the NYT just decided to stop running political cartoons because they couldn’t stop the antisemitism coming from their cartoonists,” he added.
Two Congressmen called for the Times to fire the editor.
“He was self-describing himself as an anti-Semite and he was going after Jews … Tom Wright-Piersanti should be fired,” Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) said during an appearance on Fox News.
Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) posted on Twitter that Wright-Piersanti’s posts “says LOTS about NYT!”
“NYT: Fire this dangerous bigot!” he added.
The Zionist Organization of America, a large American pro-Israel group, also called for the Times to fire the editor. It also said that the paper should do an internal editorial review of the articles he’s edited.
“The Zionist Organization of America urges the New York Times to immediately dismiss this individual and to undertake a review of all of the stories that he has edited for possible antisemitic bias,’” a spokesperson for the group told Breitbart.
“Will there be consequences? Doubtful. The New York Times is too busy weaponizing journalism to harass this President and the people who work for him to bother holding their own people accountable,” she added.
The Times said in a statement sent to news outlets: “We are aware of these tweets, which are a clear violation of our standards. We are reviewing next steps.”
Wright-Piersanti has locked his Twitter account, only allowing followers to see his tweets. At one point, before locking it, he posted a missive that read: “I have deleted tweets from a decade ago that are offensive. I am deeply sorry.”
The revelation of a political editor’s questionable tweets comes after the Times demoted another editor for missives he posted on Twitter, a platform frequently used by the paper’s employees to espouse personal views and analysis on stories.
President Donald Trump later weighed in, writing on Twitter: “Wow! The Deputy Editor of the Failing New York Times was just demoted. Should have been Fired! Totally biased and inaccurate reporting. The paper is a Fraud, Zero Credibility. Fake News takes another hit, but this time a big one!”
Her posts included asking whether “white people [are] genetically predisposed to burn faster in the sun, thus logically being only fit to live underground like groveling goblins.”
