Carol Burnett ‘Heartbroken’ After Co-Star Tim Conway Dies at 85

Actress and comedian Carol Burnett paid tribute to her co-star comedian Tim Conway who passed away on May 14 at age 85.

In a statement obtained by Fox News, Burnett said she was heartbroken about the news.

“He was one in a million, not only as a brilliant comedian but as a loving human being. I cherish the times we had together both on the screen and off. He’ll be in my heart forever,” she said.

Conway, star of “The Carol Burnett Show,” passed away in Los Angeles, according to a representative. A representative told Variety said the cause of Conway’s death was “water on the brain.”

He was known for improvising his sketches on the show. He won a Golden Globe Award for the series in 1976, along with Emmy Awards in 1973, 1977, and 1978.

Conway’s daughter Kelly Conway also remembered her father in a statement to Fox News.

“The love he gave us, and the laughter he gave the world will never be replaced, but will be remembered forever,” Conway said.

“He is at peace now but I will miss him every second of every day until we meet again in heaven. We knew he would have to leave us someday, but that day came too soon. I want to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support over the past year or so,” she added.

Many other celebrities were in mourning and also paid tribute to the star on social media.

“The amount of joy Tim Conway brought my family as a child was immeasurable. The man was pure comedy. Riotously funny. I finally got to see him work when he guest starred on The Larry Sanders show and he was all I dreamed he would be. As kind as he was funny. He will be missed,” filmmaker and comedian Judd Apatow wrote.

Similarly, actor and comedian Wayne Brady wrote: “So sad right now about #timconway. Rarely do you get to meet and then work w a childhood idol. We even did a #dorf sketch! God Bless you sir.”

Comedian Christopher Titus also remembered Conway through his post.

“The first time I can remember laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe was watching Tim Conway on the Carol Burnett show. Every character infused with a lovable crazy that broke me week after week. Timing, commitment and roll on the floor funny. Love Tim Conway, comic genius, RIP,” Titus wrote.

Actor Ian James Corlett wrote about the time he had an opportunity to work with Conway.

“So saddened to hear of the passing of the incomparable #TimConway. I had the privilege of working with him on #WhatsWithAndy. He played my grandfather. He was such a pro. So kind,” Corlett wrote.

Author John Scalzi also posted a tribute to the comedian.

“This makes me sad. I was a big fan of his when I was a little kid. And my own kid got to know him through SpongeBob Squarepants. Delighting generations is a pretty good legacy for any entertainer. RIP, Tim Conway,” Scalzi said.

Conway’s later work included lending his voice to a character on “SpongeBob SquarePants” as well as a character on “The Simpsons.”
