Trina McGee announced the pregnancy of her fourth child at 54-years-old.

The “Boy Meets World” actress posted the news to Instagram on Monday and asked for prayers for a safe delivery.

“At the tender age of 54 I have found myself pregnant,” the post reads. “Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery. Thank you.”

Ms. McGee also announced her temporary departure from social media and thanked her audience.

“Gonna sign off social media for a bit. Thanks for your prayers and well wishes in advance,” she said.

The pregnancy announcement follows a recent Instagram post from Ms. McGee in Belize where she wears a blue tank top exposing her midsection. The caption reads, “If I show up to your door with a coconut cake we bout to have fun.”

A user commented under the post saying, “the bump!” and the actress replied, “yup.”

Ms. McGee is already a mother of three. Two of whom she shares with a man from a previous marriage named Randall Courtland Davis. Her third child is from a former relationship.

Trina McGee’s Career

Ms. McGee is best known for her role as Angela Moore on the ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World” from 1997 to 2000. Her character was the best friend of Topanga Lawrence played by Danielle Fishel and the love interest of Shawn Hunter played by Rider Strong.

In 2022, the actress revealed that she was pregnant with her third child while on set for the television series.

“That time I played a teenager but in reality I was 6 months pregnant,” a TikTok video post of herself reads.

The video then cuts to a photo of young McGee as her character Angela Moore during the season 5 episode “And Then There Was Shawn.” The photo shows her wearing an oversized cardigan, concealing her second-trimester baby bump.

“For those who didn’t know...you gotta let ‘em know,” a duplicated post by her on Instagram reads.
Ms. McGee appeared on one episode of the show’s spinoff “Girl Meets World” in 2015. She has also made appearances on TV series such as “Family Matters,” “A Different World,” and “Martin.” Her film credits include Sylvester Stallone’s “Daylight” and her most recent project “Classmates,” according to IMDB.

Concerns Arise

“Boy Meets World” actress Maitland Ward shared her thoughts about her former co-star’s pregnancy in an interview with TMZ. She explained her shock and disbelief when she heard the news.

“I hate to say it but my first thought was like ‘Is this April Fools Day?’ I was like ‘Wait what?’” she said.

Ms. Ward then expressed that she hopes the pregnancy announcement from Ms. McGee is not a publicity stunt. “I hope that it’s not like a publicity stunt or anything. I hope not,” she said.

When asked why it would be a stunt, Ward responded saying she hasn’t been able to confirm if the pregnancy is legitimate saying, “I have not seen any like verification or any information.”

She continues by saying that while she understands McGee may want to protect her pregnancy in the beginning stages, Ward hopes she documents her journey publicly to inspire other women who struggle with pregnancy issues.

“I would think in the first days she’s probably trying to be safe and everything, so I give her her space and all that,” she said, “But I hope that you know, as it goes along, she would show us, you know, her journey because that’s a pretty big deal.”

“I think that would help a lot of women. A lot of women with fertility issues,” she said.

According to the Mayo Clinic, pregnancy-related complications increase for women over 35 years old, which may lead to C-section deliveries. Other risks surrounding pregnancy that may arise with age include premature birth, high blood pressure, chromosomal conditions, and pregnancy loss.

The risk of pregnancy loss may stem from decreasing egg quality and increasing risk of chronic conditions as a woman’s age increases.

One of Several

Ms. McGee joins several Hollywood stars who have experienced pregnancy later in life.

Actress Brooke Shields gave birth to her second child, whom she shares with her husband Chris Henchy, at 40 years old.

“Catwoman” star Hallie Berry gave birth to her first child at 41 and her second child at 47. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” she shared how she thought it was impossible to be pregnant at her age and said it was considered a “geriatric pregnancy.”

“I didn’t think it was possible at my age, honestly,” she said. “They call it a geriatric pregnancy.”

Producer and actress Salma Hayek gave birth to her only child after 40 years old. She told WebMD that she was surprised at how easy it was for her to get pregnant.

“I thought I was going to need help getting pregnant, and I didn’t,” she said.

According to the website, she experienced gestational diabetes, a risk that increases with a pregnant woman’s age. However, she is glad she became a mom during her later years.

“I wouldn’t trade this for anything in the world,” she said.
