Olympic skier Bode Miller and wife Morgan Beck are expecting twins, a year after their daughter’s tragic accidental death.
The couple revealed the news on the “Today” show, saying they’re expecting twin boys, something Bode has wished for some time.
“From the beginning of our relationship, [Bode] always said, ‘I want identical twin boys, born on my birthday,’” Morgan said. “And this time, when we found out I was pregnant, I said, ‘Do you think it’s twins this time?’ And he said ‘No,’ so I went to the ultrasound by myself and sure enough, identical twin boys.”
The announcement comes just over a year since their 19-month-old daughter Emeline “Emmy” Miller’s tragic accidental drowning in a neighbor’s pool.
“Obviously after losing Emmy I think we both were sort of thinking it was going to be girls or sure hoping it was going to be girls,” Bode said on the show.
Morgan said in an Instagram post that the twins are expected to arrive on Nov. 11, about a month after Bode’s birthday.
“From the beginning of this pregnancy, we knew Emmy had her hands in this miracle somehow,” Morgan added in the Instagram post.
Morgan also opened up about her struggles with the possibility of losing a child while being pregnant.
“The conflict of emotions from what was pure joy turned to guilt and terror overnight. How could I love this baby the way I loved Emmy? Was it okay to love this baby the way I loved Emmy? It felt like by loving my son, I was trying to replace her,” she wrote.
“The fear of birthing my son and what that meant .....a monumental step forward....proof that time continued without her when all I wanted was for time to stop. But let me say this....I couldn’t have been more wrong,” she continued in the post.
Four months after Emmy’s tragic death, the couple welcomed son Easton.
“Easton provided us an even closer bond to his sister. The moment I heard his cry, something sparked back alive in my soul. Hope. Love,” she wrote, adding, “I’m not sure. But in that moment, I knew I was Mom and my kids deserved the world from me. Everything was going to be okay. My joy and grief could coexist.”
In addition to Easton, the couple are also parents to 4-year-old son Nash, while Bode is father to Samuel, 6, and Neesyn, 11, from previous relationships.
Following Emmy’s accidental drowning, the couple have been advocating for water safety to help prevent further such accidents from happening.
On May 3, Morgan shared some encouraging news, writing on Instagram: “Did you know that for the FIRST. TIME. EVER. Florida had ZERO drownings for the months of February and March?! Talk about a ‘WHOA’ moment for my family, friends and so many others who have lost their babies to this epidemic.”
“The urgency behind this conversation has started and I am so proud of the steps we are all taking to create this necessary change. #EmmyandLevi you two continue to move mountains and are missed beyond measure,” she added.
