“The Big Bang Theory” star Kunal Nayyar made a generous donation to the family of late TV news anchor and reporter Chris Burrous on Dec. 30, according to TMZ.
Nayyar was listed as the highest donor on the family’s GoFundMe page as of Dec. 31, with $5,000 given to the campaign. More than $65,000 of the $75,000 goal has been raised by nearly 1,500 people in two days.

The page was created by Gigi Graciette to support Burrous’s wife Mai Do-Burrous and 9-year-old daughter Isabella.

“As they mourn and deal with this sudden loss, the last thing they need to worry about right now is how to pay for a funeral, Mai finding a job, bills, and other immediate expenses,” stated the campaign page.

Burrous, 43, from Porter Ranch, California, was a Los Angeles news anchor for KTLA’s “Morning News” since 2011. He was found unresponsive on Dec. 27 at the Glendale Days Inn after a man he was with called the authorities at 1:14 p.m., said Glendale Police in a news release.
“The original call to the Glendale Police Department indicated the deceased had possibly overdosed,” read the news release.

The Glendale Fire Department responded to the scene and found Burrous not breathing. He was given CPR and transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Burrous family. Chris loved sharing the stories of Southern California and connecting with our viewers,” KTLA President and General Manager Don Corsini and news director Jason Ball said in a statement. “He will be remembered as a great journalist and a wonderful friend to many. He brought a kindness to his work and will be deeply missed by the entire KTLA family.”

Do-Burrous’s sister Rosemary Do Silverstein also started a GoFundMe page for the family, and both campaigns said that all funds would go to Burrous’s wife and daughter. The second campaign has raised more than $26,000 of a $50,000 goal from over 500 people.

“KTLA’s Chris Burrous was one of a kind. He came into our homes every morning, bringing his endless enthusiasm, childlike curiosity, and wicked sense of humor to brighten our days,” wrote Do Silverstein. “On the weekends, he shared your stories, whether through emails, Hi-5 photos, or tweets. He even let you in on the most special secret of all... where to eat! He did this because he loved connecting with all of you.”

Burrous, the son of a former NASA engineer, launched his two-decade career after graduating from Chapman University with a degree in broadcast journalism, according to KTLA.

In 1999, he joined KGET in Bakersfield as a morning news anchor. It was there that he met his wife, Mai Do-Burrous, a fellow journalist.

In 2003 the couple married and now they share a daughter, Isabella, who’s 9 years old.

After spending 14 years as a reporter and anchor at news stations across the United States—including KGPE in Fresno, KMAX in Sacramento, and WPIX, KTLA’s sister station in New York City—he went to KTLA in 2011.

Burrous told the New York Daily News that he asked for a transfer to California so that his daughter could grow up near her grandparents. The family ended up settling down in Porter Ranch.

At KTLA, he helped extend “Morning News” to seven days a week, anchoring weekends, and covering breaking news on weekday mornings, reported KTLA.

His weekend “Burrous’ Bites” segments were a viewer favorite.

For one of his last “Burrous’ Bites” news segments, where the anchor visited popular local eateries, Burrous met with the Pasadena Rose Queen at La Grande Orange Cafe. The segment aired on Dec. 30.
