Actress Mamie Laverock’s family has issued an update on the “When Calls the Heart” star’s condition nearly a week after the 19-year-old was placed on life support for injuries she sustained from a five-story fall.

“Focusing now on Mamie’s surgery today. Her body has been shattered. She has undergone two 11 hour surgeries with two doctors working on her, a three hour surgery and another surgery today. We have nothing but gratitude for the doctors and nurses who have been exemplary in her care since May 26,” read a statement shared on a GoFundMe page created by Ms. Laverock’s parents, Nicole Rockmann and John Laverock, and stepfather Rob Compton.

“Mamie is ‘doing well’ comparatively to when she arrived. Doing well because she has survived these extensive surgeries. She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up. We can only hold onto the miracles of each day and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and marvel at the miracles of her story,” the message continued. “Our daughter loves her life and loves her family and is fighting hard every day.”

The Canadian actress sustained “life-threatening injuries” after falling five stories from a balcony walkway on May 26. The incident occurred at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, where Ms. Laverock was receiving treatment for an undisclosed medical emergency she experienced on May 11.

According to an earlier update shared on the fundraising page, Ms. Rockmann had traveled to Winnipeg to help her daughter, who was in distress.

“Nicole was able to get there in time to save her life. Then got her to a hospital in Winnipeg,” Mr. Compton wrote. Ms. Laverock was then transferred to the Vancouver hospital, where she had been “showing signs of improvement.”

However, Ms. Rockmann and Mr. Compton later posted an emotional statement, sharing that Ms. Laverock had suffered a tragic fall while at the hospital.

“We are deeply saddened to report that on May 26th, Mamie, who has been in intensive treatment for the past two weeks, was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories. She sustained life threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries, and is currently on life support,” the couple wrote.

“We are all devastated, in shock, at this intensely difficult time,” they added.

A spokesperson for Providence Health Care, which operates St. Paul’s Hospital, could not comment on Ms. Laverock’s accident “due to privacy and confidentiality policies.” However, the healthcare organization told The Epoch Times via email that “in cases related to patient safety, an internal critical incident review is conducted to determine exactly what happened and to make recommendations for improved patient safety.”

The spokesperson added: “Our hearts go out to the patient, family, and all affected by this event, and offer our best wishes for a full recovery.”

Supportive Messages from Co-Stars

Ms. Laverock—who rose to prominence in the 2012 comedy film “This Means War,” starring Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon—has received an outpouring of support on social media following her distressing accident, particularly from her fellow “When Calls the Heart” actors.
“I love this wonderful family so much, and my heart is broken. Such a devastating time for them and all who care deeply for sweet Mamie. Please help if you can. They need all the support they can get to make it through this nightmare,” actress Johannah Newmarch, who plays Ms. Laverock’s onscreen mother on the show, wrote in a recent Instagram post alongside a screenshot of Ms. Laverock’s GoFundMe.
Actress Erin Krakow, who portrays the character Elizabeth Thornton in the series, also encouraged her followers to support Ms. Laverock. “I just donated. If you have the means to do so, I hope you will too,” she wrote on the social media platform. The fundraising page has garnered more than 35,000 Canadian dollars from 586 donations as of the afternoon of June 3 ($25,685).
Mitchell Kummen, who has appeared in about a dozen episodes of “When Calls the Heart,” took to X, formerly Twitter, to urge his followers to pray for his former co-star. “My Friend you got this! Please continue all the prayers you have been sending! They are working,” he wrote.
“Thinking of Mamie and family and sending love,” shared Canadian actress Ava Grace Cooper, a regular on the Hallmark show since 2014.
Canadian realist artist Justin Maas drew a portrait of Ms. Laverock, which he shared on his Instagram account. “Mamie had a tragic fall from a 5 story balcony a week ago & has undergone several lengthy surgeries so I drew a little tribute to this brave young lady. The good news is that her family says she is recovering well so fingers crossed this continues and she’s back on her feet soon,” he captioned the post. “The journey won’t be easy but she’s clearly a fighter and battling well.”
