Matthew Rhys credits fatherhood with shaping his performance in the upcoming thriller “Hallow Road.”
The 50-year-old actor said that raising his 8-year-old son Sam with his partner, actress Keri Russell, has helped him connect deeply with his role as a desperate father trying to protect his child.
Directed by Babak Anvari, “Hallow Road” follows two parents who receive a distressing late-night call from their daughter after she is involved in a tragic car accident. The film also stars Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike.
Rhys, known for his roles in “The Americans” and “Perry Mason,” shared how fatherhood has influenced him both on and off screen.
“I cry a lot easier these days since I became a father for reasons I don’t know why,” he said.
In addition to his son Sam, Rhys also helps raise Russell’s two children from her previous relationship—River, 17, and Willa Lou, 12. He noted another connection between himself and his character: both are fathers of children who are now old enough to drive.
