Shannen Doherty, the former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star, said that she’s preparing for an upcoming surgery.
She went on Instagram Tuesday, May 1 saying that she banking blood for the procedure. She didn’t share the nature of the surgery, although last year she announced that her cancer was in remission.
“So two of them come every 2 weeks and donate platelets which takes 2 hours. Another girl comes as often as allowed to donate blood. To say I’m moved by the generosity of people is an understatement,” she continued. “I’m vowing that as long as I’m cleared in the future, I will start donating. Thank you to those selfless humans that donate. Thank you to Mars and all at the clinic in Woodland Hills for your smiles and hard work. Thank you to the @americanredcross #humbledagain.”
The actress said that she had been battling breast cancer since 2015 and underwent chemotherapy and had a mastectomy.
“As I’ve said before, cancer changes your life in ways no one could ever imagine,” Doherty added. “Btw, the elevation can be from all sorts of things. Oh and vitamin D... need more of that too.”
Several weeks ago, she wrote that she was “still in remission.”
She added: “But it also gave me a new level of anxiety about things. All understandable. I share my experience to help connect, bring awareness and hopefully encourage those going thru cancer to stay positive. So many of you have helped me with your words, prayers and support. You have helped pave the path I have walked and continue to walk and I’m eternally grateful for that. I can only hope I have helped you as well. Much love to you all.”
