LOS ANGELES—Shen Yun Performing Arts, the New York-based classical Chinese dance and music company, returned to Southern California this past week. Shen Yun performed to packed theaters and sold out shows, both in Orange County and Los Angeles.

Many of the audience members represented a veritable who’s who in the arts for the past 50 years. These audience members also provided further evidence of the kind of excellence, quality and culture that Shen Yun has rapidly become known for since its inception in 2006.

Among the audience members who attended the matinee performance on Jan.14 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion was Rose Nunnely. Mrs. Nunnely, whose stage name was Rose Aguilar is the daughter of Lilly Aguilar. Both are recognized by many for their influence and contributions to the world of flamenco dancing.

Mrs. Nunnely felt that her own classical training also helped her to understand the performance.

“It was wonderful, wonderful! Filled my heart … I understand it,” she said. “It reaffirmed that people worldwide, are filled with love, and hope and faith, and we all want peace. That’s what I got from it.”

Mrs. Nunnely went on to say she would tell her friends that Shen Yun’s entire presentation was “fantastic, entertaining, and heart filling.”
