A man and woman with two very different physical limitations have found a very familiar feeling between one another, and are now sharing their story of how love makes them as a whole greater than the sum of their parts.

The newlyweds have held their marriage ceremony in February, and are already helping the other in daily life where they themselves have difficulty. Pear Videos, a Chinese short-video news outlet, shared the story of their relationship on May 2.

The wife, named Peng Yu, is a person of short stature, measuring a total of  3 feet, 7 inches (110 cm) tall, according to Pear Videos. Her husband, named Zhang Gang, has lost both of his arms, but Pear Videos did not elaborate on his condition.

“Suddenly, there was a girl who smiled at me like that, I had a really great feeling in my heart,” Zhang said of Peng to Pear Videos. “This is the first time I’ve met a girl like her, who is so devoted to me.”

Zhang went on to explain how being with Peng has changed his life and given him confidence. They now share their love through online video streaming, known as live streaming.

Love Knows No Difference

“He’s my long legs,” Peng says about Zhang, as she looks up to him with a smile inside their new condominium, in the Pear Video report. Zhang immediately responds with a cheeky smile, “She’s my little hands.” Peng adds to his joke, “Little arms,” and Zhang agrees with her as they both giggle.

The newlyweds live together in the northeastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang, a region that was historically part of Manchuria.

Peng reminisced on the first time the two met. “At first he was pretty distant,” Peng told Pear Videos. “He didn’t like speaking or smiling. Then later, after we were in contact, it was better, I felt he was a pretty responsible guy.”

“He’s handsome too,” Peng said with a big smile and a laugh.

Due to their physical limitations, they help each other in different ways. Peng helps to drive her husband, and helps him get dressed.

“I should say that we take pretty good care of each other in life,” Peng told Pear Videos. “Like I can’t get things from up high, but he can, and the things he has trouble doing, I can do.”

Zhang explained how meeting his wife has changed his life. “Before, when I lived at home, I didn’t like going outside,” Zhang told Pear Videos.

“Before, [if someone] looked at me, I felt really uncomfortable inside,” Zhang told Pear Videos. He also said that his love has changed his life. “It doesn’t matter how many people look at both of us, I don’t mind it at all, and don’t think about it.”

They both have gained confidence from being with each other, and are willing to share their love story with more people now.

“We usually like to watch other’s live streams,” Peng told Pear Videos. “We saw other disabled people doing it, so we decided to give it a shot.”

Livestream

The couple’s live streaming brings them a group of fans and a bit of income. Peng explained that the donations are sometimes enough to buy their meals for the day, or even things like make-up.

“A lot of our fans wish the best for us,” Peng told Pear Videos. “Yes, they wish us the best and encourage us, so we both feel really fortunate right now,” Zhang said after his wife.

Zhang closed by saying he hopes they can have a baby after they settle down and make some more money.
