Colorado Man Confesses to Killing Pregnant Wife and Two Daughters

A Colorado man has been arrested for the murder of his wife, who was pregnant, and their two young daughters.

The town of Frederick announced that Chris Watts was arrested in connection to the missing persons case involving his wife Shanann Watts, 34, and her two daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3.

Officials said more details would be given in an Aug. 16 press conference.

The arrest of Watts, 33, came after he confessed to killing the three missing females, sources told ABC 7. Shanann Watts’ brother posted on social media stating that Chris Watts had confessed, reported KDVR.

He was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of tampering with evidence.

Mom Goes Missing

Watts, who was 15 weeks pregnant, vanished on Aug. 13, with her two girls.

A close friend of the missing mother said that she dropped Watts off at her house around 2 a.m. They had just returned from a work trip.

The friend was supposed to meet back up with Watts after they both got some rest but Watts didn’t answer her phone.

“I called her and texted her several times,” Watts’ friend told KDVR.

“I knew she had a doctor’s appointment that morning because she’s pregnant. She didn’t show up for it … and I was even more concerned.”

The disappearance triggered an alert from authorities, with the FBI joining the case on Aug. 15.

A welfare check on Aug. 13, after the friend called the police, turned up Watts’ phone, keys, and purse.

Husband Speaks Out

Chris Watts spoke to several media outlets after his wife disappeared, asserting he didn’t know what had happened.

“It’s not something I could ever, ever fathom would happen in my lifetime, and I have no inclination of where she is,” he told ABC 7.

“She said she was going to a friend’s house with the kids and that’s the last thing I heard, and that was it. It was very vague.”

A reporter asked him if he thought his wife just left.

“Right now I don’t even want to just throw anything out there. I hope that she’s somewhere safe right now and with the kids,” he responded.

“But could she have just taken off? I don’t know, but if somebody has her and they’re not safe, I want them back now.”
