TAIPEI, Taiwan—New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company performed five consecutive full house performances at Taipei’s Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. Shen Yun’s annual performance in Taiwan’s capital has become a major calendar event for Taipei society.
In addition to Taipei residents, some members of the audience even journeyed from China to see the performance. Dozens of mainland tourists attended Saturday’s matinee and evening performances Feb. 23.
Former head chef for President Chiang Chingkuo and now the most famous chef in Taiwan, Jheng Yanji, was deeply moved by Shen Yun’s performance. After the performance, he made a deep 90-degree bow to thank all the Shen Yun performers. He said: “Very touching! It is truly very touching!! In the short two hours, they were able to express the greatness of 5,000 years of Chinese culture. I think that it is able to touch people’s hearts a great deal. It is at the highest level, being able to cleanse the heart and soul. It has already exceeded the range of worldly thoughts. Marvelous!!”
Mr. Lin, an engineer from mainland China, thought that Shen Yun’s performance not only shows the different ethnicities of China, but also shows the commonalities among all ethnic groups. “It complements our Chinese traditional culture. I think this is very good. This can even further show that the world is one family.”
Mr. Zheng, a wealthy mainland businessman in the electronics industry, watches Shen Yun every year. It’s the show that cleanses his soul and heart every time, he said. “With morality deteriorating in current society, it’s great to see China’s cultural heritage promoted through performance. In fact, many businessmen who have been chasing profit will eventually look inward themselves and want to come to Shen Yun for a chance to cleanse the soul.”
Member of the Taiwan Legislative Yuan, Chen Ou-po, said that he felt as if floating in the air with the Shen Yun performers and it was a spiritual experience. “It is my first time watching a performance filled with traditional culture. Shen Yun Performing Arts is indeed outstanding. The dance of different ethnicities brightened my eyes. I feel as if I can float out of this world. Really … it is like a rebirth. It is also an experience that elevates my spirit.”
Honorary professor of National Taipei University, Zhao Shude, who also manages an art gallery, said: “Combining all of the Chinese culture with the beauty of performance art, it has achieved the realm of truth, kindness, and beauty. You'll never get tired of watching the show. I love each and every program.”
President of Hotai Fugi Co., Ltd., said that he was proud to be Chinese and that he was moved to tears. “It is truly a divine performance! It has touched the deepest part of my heart. [Shen Yun] brought to life the strength of the Chinese people for the entire world to see. I think that the future generations of Chinese people will walk with pride wherever they go. It really brings tears to people’s eyes. Pride of the Chinese, pride of the Chinese!”
