Well-known Chinese activist Hu Jia has called on the U.S. government to pay attention to organ harvesting in China, decrying what he described as “demon”-like acts carried out by Chinese security forces.

Hu, who was once nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his activism, spoke to NTD Television by telephone, despite having been forced to leave Beijing before the 18th Party Congress. He is staying in Huangshan, Anhui Province, and is forbidden to return to Beijing during the Congress.

He told NTD that he first doubted the news reports on organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience, primarily Falun Gong practitioners, when he first saw them in 2006. But he said after this year’s political scandals involving Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai, and after seeing a robust response from the international community on the issue, he was convinced that the killing of Falun Gong practitioners to harvest their organs did in fact exist.

“I think U.S. Congressional representatives are very careful. They would not go along with just anything, because it could cost them their reputations and votes. I believe that they hold some kind of solid evidence and that is why the international community has also responded so strongly to this issue,” Hu said.

Hu continued: “Removing people’s organs while they are still alive indeed has exceeded what a human could possibly bear, rationally and emotionally. [Anyone who could do such a thing] is no different from a demon. The CCP has committed all kinds of evil acts, and I truly believe that it would have been forced to step down a hundred times if it had existed in a democratic society.”

Hu called for the U.S. presidential candidates to pay more attention to the organ harvesting issue before the election, “Promoting human rights is one of the founding blocks of the United States. I hope the candidates can be a voice for the victims and let the U.S. voters be aware of this issue. Exposing this problem will generate a bigger impact, which in turn, will help to stop the crimes.”

Hu called for high-ranking CCP officials who hold information about the crimes to quickly release the evidence. Hu believes that this will help stop the crime, and said that withholding evidence is the same as assisting in the crime.
