UPDATE: Demosistō party’s general secretary Joshua Wong and party member Agnes Chow have been released from the Hong Kong police headquarters in the afternoon of Aug. 30. Chow told press gathered outside the Eastern Magistrates’ Court that their arrests were a clear attempt by the Hong Kong government and the Chinese regime to “create a white terror” to try to scare Hong Kong people to not to participate in the social movement and the democratic movement in the future.
Wong added that, “One country, two systems is already eroded to be one country, one and a half systems, and a high degree of autonomy is strongly being eroded under the chilling effect of the troops moving at the border and the emergency ordinance, which means that Beijing just continues to manipulate Hong Kong people’s freedom. We shall never surrender.”
