The Chinese consulate in San Francisco is harboring a visiting Chinese researcher, who was previously interviewed by the FBI for concealing her ties to the Chinese military to obtain a visa, according to a court document filed on July 20. On June 26, Tang Juan, a researcher at UC Davis was charged with visa fraud for making false statements on her visa application for a J-1 nonimmigrant visa, a type of visa issued to individuals participating in work-and-study-based exchange visitor programs.
