Hong Kong tennis player Coleman Wong Chek-lam secured his first professional tournament victory on June 25th in Tunisia’s final M15 level professional circuit men’s singles event. He defeated Italian player Luca Giacomini with a score of 2-1, becoming the first Hong Kong player ever to win a professional tennis tournament.

Currently ranked 670th in the ATP men’s singles rankings, Wong was seeded third in the competition. He defeated British and Russian players in straight sets to advance in the first two rounds. He then defeated French player Nicolas Tepmahc and Brazil’s Gilbert Klier Junior, respectively, to reach the final.

In the final, Wong faced Luca Giacomini, ranked 821st in the men’s singles rankings. Wong quickly broke his opponent’s serve in the second game of the match and, although once leveled by his opponent, he broke serve again to win the first set 6-3. Luca Giacomini made a strong comeback in the second set, winning 7-5 to even the score. However, the 19-year-old Wong displayed great courage in the match, hitting 14 Aces. He broke serve early and late in the third set, winning it 6-1 and securing the championship with a 2-1 set victory.

After the match, Wong took to Instagram to share his feelings about the victory, “Hong Kong’s first champion! I never thought I would break the Hong Kong record one day and become the first player to win a men’s singles professional tennis tournament. There are too many people to thank, and I sincerely appreciate all of you who have supported me behind the scenes.”
