Just days before the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) sixth plenary session, the party’s mouthpiece media published a series of articles spotlighting Xi Jinping’s “achievements.” International observers point out that what Xi has done could be categorized as regressive.
The articles praised Xi for his “foresight,” being “wise and decisive,” and “a series of strategies and major decisions that the leader has done in the new era he pioneered.”
The CCP’s official media Xinhua News Agency released a special article on Nov. 8, that used more than 3,000 words to tout the “new era” of the Chinese communist regime “for the benefit of the world” and to set off the atmosphere for the opening of the CCP’s Sixth Plenary Session.
The CCP conclave, held in Beijing for four consecutive days, started on Nov. 8. Participants will review and pass the third “historical resolution” of the CCP that summarize its 100 years of “achievements” and Xi’s “achievements” at the meeting.
Yan Chien-fa, a professor of the Department of Business Administration at Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology and the deputy chief executive of the Taiwan Democracy Foundation, told the Chinese edition of The Epoch Times that since 2012, China’s relationship with the outside world has gradually deteriorated. Adding expansions through the Belt and Road plan and in the South China Sea, signal the beginning of China’s decline.
Yan said: “The relationship with the United States, Europe, Japan, and India began to deteriorate from 2018, and then he [Xi] started targeting the Chinese high-tech companies. In addition, there are a lot of problems with power shortages. There are also the floods, too many problems. I think they have too many internal and external troubles; how could he write a resolution document to summarize [achievements]? He is going backward now. This resolution is strange. It’s just for his consecutive term being passed by the 20th CCP conference next year.
“China’s internal financial difficulties are now very serious, and there is also the problem of a sharp decline in real estate. It is difficult to recover for a while. I think the economy will decline even more this year and next year.
“The [COVID-19 epidemic] zero policy is the same. What you are getting now seems to be that there are not many confirmed cases. But in fact, there are a lot. The outside world does not believe it and thinks that the real number is covered up.”
Li Hengqing, a US-based scholar, told The Chinese edition of The Epoch Times that, like all the highest-level meetings of the CCP, the Sixth Plenary Session was held behind closed doors and such key resolutions have always been drafted in advance.
Li said that Xi wanted to use this party conclave to affirm that he has steered the CCP in the right direction again: “which is the so-called common prosperity. Then he must use more ideologies that exclude Western democratic and free ideas to rule the whole party. At the same time, economically, he has also started to lead the country towards more nationalization and squeezing the space for individuals and private sectors. By doing so, he makes sure that the CCP controls everything in the country. Then you will see this time, it must be reflected in this resolution.”
