The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) reaction to the deadly attack on Israel by the Hamas terrorists revealed that it’s on the side of Palestine, according to Gordon Chang, author of “The Coming Collapse of China” and “China Is Going to War.”
“I’m sure Chinese weapons [will] show up on the battlefield. And, of course, it’s Chinese money that has permitted this,” Mr. Chang said.
On Monday afternoon, Mr. Schumer told Chinese leader Xi Jinping that he was “disappointed” by Beijing’s lack of sympathy for the Israeli people.
“I urge you and the Chinese people to stand with the Israeli people and condemn the cowardly and vicious attacks,” Mr. Schumer said. “I say this with respect, but I was disappointed by the foreign minister’s statement that showed no sympathy or support for the Israeli people during these troubled times.”
Asked about Mr. Schumer’s comments, Beijing updated its response to the Israel–Hamas conflict.
“We are very saddened by the civilian casualties caused by the conflict, and also oppose and condemn such acts against civilians,” Mao Ning, a spokeswoman for China’s foreign ministry, said at a regular briefing on Monday. She didn’t mention Hamas by name.
When pressed by reporters about Israel’s appeals, Ms. Mao reiterated Beijing’s stance, saying that the regime is “a friend to both Israel and Palestine.”
For Mr. Chang, a longtime China observer, it’s not a surprise that the CCP refrained from joining the international community to condemn Hamas.
“It is fully supporting the Palestinians. It is supporting Hamas. And it is going after Israel,” Mr. Chang said, referring to the CCP.
“This is we can see this from Chinese propaganda, which, at best, is dispassionate; at worst, it tries to obfuscate the origins of this war.”
“Calling for restraint, in this circumstance, is completely inappropriate,” he continued. “We have to let Israel defend itself from these horrific attacks which are continuing.”
‘China’s on a War Footing’
Mr. Chang’s comment came as the U.S. delegation, co-led by Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), held meetings with senior Chinese officials in Beijing. Before heading to China, Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) suggested whatever the American lawmakers say, the CCP wouldn’t change its repressive at home and aggressive abroad. He even introduced a bill that would stop members of Congress from using federal funds to travel to the communist country.
“Communist China hates America, chose to be our adversary, and wants to dominate the global economy and destroy our way of life by any means necessary,” he said. “Xi is a murderous dictator, so why the hell would Chuck Schumer spend taxpayers’ hard-earned money to kiss the ring in Beijing and appease him? ”
Mr. Chang saw little chance that the bill would pass in the Senate as the majority wouldn’t support it at the moment. But he described Mr. Schumer’s visit to Beijing as “ill-advised” and “inappropriate.”
“Right now, China’s on a war footing. It is preparing to kill Americans,” Mr. Chang said. “The Senate should be back in session on dealing with critical legislation on procurement, funding of the military, all sorts of things to defend the United States from the Communist Party. ”
‘Enemy’
The Chinese regime is not a competitor of the United States, but an enemy, Mr. Chang said, warning that if U.S. leaders fail to designate the regime appropriately, America won’t be able to defend itself.“We could lose our country because we’re not defending ourselves,” said Mr. Chang.
“China has no problem calling us an enemy,” Mr. Chang said. He pointed to an editorial, published in May 2019 in the CCP’s mouthpiece People’s Daily, in which the regime declared “a people’s war” against the United States.
“They have been attacking the United States daily. They kill Americans with fentanyl. The list goes on of China’s malicious, unrestricted warfare against the U.S.
“We shouldn’t be calling them an adversary. We should be calling them what they call us, an enemy.”
