On Dec. 25, a woman was seen floating in the water near the shore of Lobster Bay, Lung Ha Wan, Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong. A quick-thinking angler used his hook and line to bring her to shore. She was later taken to the hospital by the government’s rescue helicopter.
To a request for information, the Government Flying Service (GFS) clarified that the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Christmas Day when it received a report that someone had fallen into the water near the shore of Lobster Bay. By the time the helicopter arrived at the scene, the woman had already been rescued by an angler and others. The woman was conscious without any injury but feeling cold and dizzy. She was subsequently taken to the Eastern Hospital.
The police said that the woman, aged 50, was hiking along the coast of Lung Ha Wan, with two female friends when she accidentally fell into the water. She was treated at the local hospital and has since been discharged. She sustained no injuries.
The first video is about three minutes long. A female wearing a yellow jacket is seen floating in the sea. Upon seeing the woman in the water, the angler hooked her back to the shore and rescued her with the help of others. The woman seemed unconscious initially, but at the end of the video, she seemed to have regained consciousness.
The second video is about one minute long and shows a helicopter of the Government Flying Service, marked “B-LVD” taking the woman away from the scene.
After the videos had been uploaded to social media, the angler’s chivalrous act was applauded. Some of the comments posted are: “Bravo to the good Samaritan!“ another comment read, ”One good turn deserves another, The angler deserves a medal for bravery.” Some comments also reminded people to be careful walking along the coast.
