LOS ANGELES—A pedestrian was pronounced dead in the Pacoima area of Los Angeles after he was struck by three vehicles that failed to stop, authorities said Jan. 13.
The man, who was said to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was crossing mid-block on San Fernando Road south of Montague Street at about 11:45 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a light-colored pickup truck that was going northbound in southbound lanes, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The pedestrian fell to the ground in northbound lanes and was hit by a second northbound vehicle as he tried to get up, police said. That vehicle was described as a light-colored full-size SUV.
The impact sent the pedestrian into southbound lanes where he was run over by a third vehicle described as a dark-colored mid-size SUV that was headed southbound on San Fernando Road.
The drivers of all three vehicles failed to stop, render aid, and remain at the scene as the law requires, police said. The first and second vehicles were last seen headed northbound on San Fernando Road toward Osborne Street and the third vehicle was last seen headed southbound on San Fernando toward Branford Street.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.
A reward of up to $50,000 is available to people who provide information leading to the arrest, apprehension and conviction of hit-and-run drivers, or resolution through a civil compromise.
