“This is the ultimate underdog story,” said Bruce Lou from San Francisco, who is running for Congress and will be squaring off against Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) this November.
From education to homelessness, Mr. Lou said he wants to bring new perspectives to Congress and, eventually, changes to his communities. “There are a lot of moderate Democrats in San Francisco who are fed up with how life is.”
Mr. Lou’s passion for history helped him win the championship on the TV game show Jeopardy! He said reading history gives him insights into current affairs. He is also concerned about how some approaches to teaching American history will affect how younger generations think about society.
“In schools that are teaching an ideological version of American history, a version that ignores our greatest triumphs and instead focuses on the most shameful parts, it’s a history that seeks to accentuate guilt. It’s a history that makes people ashamed to be American, rather than hopeful for a brighter future,” said Mr. Lou.
In this episode, Steve asks Mr. Lou why he got involved in politics and what he thinks younger generations should do to seek the truth.
