Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who is running in the March 5 election for a seat on the county’s board of supervisors, said his X account was suspended Feb. 19 after complaints of harassment.
“This morning, I found out that my X, or Twitter, account was temporarily suspended,” Mr. Villanueva said in a video posted to a newly opened account. “This is straight dirty politics 101.”
Someone complained he was harassing his opponent, incumbent Supervisor Janice Hahn, he said in the video.
“Imagine that … the truth being harassing,” he said. “Well, we’re going to keep harassing with the truth.”
The former sheriff said he opened a new account on the X platform and said he would continue posting on it until his original campaign account was reinstated.
His campaign’s Instagram and Facebook accounts remained operational Tuesday.
A notice posted on Mr. Villanueva’s suspended X account said the candidate violated the company’s rules.
Neither X representatives nor Ms. Hahn returned requests for comment about the suspension.
Mr. Villanueva was endorsed last week by presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
