Two men have been arrested in connection with more than a dozen mailbox burglaries in downtown Long Beach, police said in a March 26 statement.

James McMillan, 26, of Cypress was arrested March 18 by the Los Angeles Police Department in its jurisdiction and was transferred to Long Beach. Leonardo Zamora, 37, of Downey was arrested March 20 by detectives from the Long Beach Police Department at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Cherry Avenue.

McMillan was booked on suspicion of burglary with a $100,000 bail, while Zamora was booked on an outstanding burglary arrest warrant with bail set at $150,000.

The burglaries occurred between Aug. 21, 2023, until March 9, 2024, police said. The suspects used a USPS key to steal the contents of mailboxes for Long Beach apartments.

Police said that the case has been presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for felony filing consideration and that Long Beach Police Department detectives will coordinate with the U.S. Postal Service for possible federal charges.

Police urged anyone with more information to contact the LBPD Burglary Detail at 562-570-7351. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call L.A. Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477), visit www.LACrimeStoppers.org or use the “P3 TIPS” app available at the Apple App Store and Google Play.
