The company says it will replace the panel at no cost to drivers and sent recall notification letters on Mar. 20 to Cybertruck owners.
Tesla has issued a recall for most of its Cybertrucks due to an exterior trim panel that could break loose while driving.
The recall affects more than 46,000 vehicles built from November 2023 through Feb. 27 of this year.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in its filing that a detached panel can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
“The cant rail, a stainless-steel exterior trim panel, can delaminate and detach from the vehicle,” according to the
NHTSA filing.
The
recall report shows that the panel is attached to the Cybertuck with fasteners. But on affected vehicles, it could “delaminate” at the adhesive joint,” which may cause the panel to separate from the vehicle.
Drivers should be aware that a loose cant rail can create a detectable noise inside the cabin, the report states.

This marks the
eighth recall for the Cybertruck since the electric vehicle first launched in November 2023. The
last recall in December 2024 was issued because the tire pressure monitoring system warning light failed to remain lit, failing to warn drivers of low tire pressure. A
November 2024 recall was issued due to a fault in the drive inverter that possibly caused a loss of drive power to the wheels.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s
stock rose in early trading Thursday after it plunged by more than 40 percent since the beginning of the year.
The company has seen lagging sales and pushback over Elon Musk’s involvement in the Trump administration as an adviser to the cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency.
Tesla has also experienced a series of
vandalism and arson attacks at various dealerships across the country. President Donald Trump purchased his own Tesla in a show of support for the company. The president also declared any attacks on Tesla vehicles an act of domestic terrorism. Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday
announced charges against three individuals responsible for the violent destruction of Tesla properties.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick during an
interview on Wednesday night encouraged people to buy Tesla stock.
“You have probably the best entrepreneur, the best technologist, the best leader of any set of companies in America, working for America. And you have this sort of weird side of the Democratic party attacking him,” Lutnick said. “Buy Tesla. It’s unbelievable that this guy’s stock is this cheap. It’ll never be this cheap again.”
According to recall management firm
BizzyCar, Tesla accounts for a large portion of recalled vehicles in the United States.
Tesla, along with three major auto manufacturers, was responsible for 85 percent of recalls in the fourth quarter.
“Honda, Chrysler/Stellantis, Tesla, and General Motors accounted for the majority of recalls in Q4 2024, underscoring concentrated safety challenges among major automakers,” BizzyCar’s fourth-quarter and year-end recall
report said.
