TORONTO—Karl Amyot had tickets to watch his Montréal Canadiens play the New York Rangers this weekend.

But Saturday morning he left the hockey tickets behind and travelled to Toronto to attend Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Sony Centre.

As the owner of two Montreal-area textile companies, Les Agences H.F.K. Inc. and TEXTILES AMKA INC., Mr. Amyot paid particular attention to Shen Yun’s “very colourful” costumes.

“I really enjoy the costumes,” he said. “It’s different than what we are accustomed to seeing.”

Mr. Amyot noted the beauty of the female dancers and the flips and tumbling movements performed by the male dancers.

He was also struck by Shen Yun’s animated backdrops, which form an interwoven part of the performances.

“When the dancers … come from the background onto the stage, it’s very unique,” he said. “You get a 3D effect. It’s different, very different.”

Mr. Amyot purchased his tickets in October while in Toronto for a trade show. Despite the opportunity to attend the Canadiens game, which takes place Sunday, he stuck with his plans to attend Shen Yun in Toronto.

“In fact I was in a trade show in Toronto last week and I talked to some of our customers and they came to see it too.”

“And they were very impressed,” he said.
