A black bear was hit and killed on a freeway near Santa Clarita, the California Highway Patrol reported June 23. It was the second time this week a bear was hit and killed on a freeway near the area.

The bear was hit by several vehicles on the northbound lanes of the Golden State 5 Freeway at Templin Highway around 10:30 p.m. on June 22.

Two lanes of the freeway were blocked by the highway patrol until California Department of Transportation crews arrived to remove the carcass of the bear from the freeway.

One of the cars, a BMW SUV, needed to be towed from the freeway. No drivers were hurt, according to media reports.

A bear cub was hit and killed on the Antelope Valley 14 Freeway on June 19.
