Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden quipped that he was Sen. Kamala Harris’ (D-Calif.) running mate during a campaign speech on Tuesday.

“My name’s Joe Biden, I’m Jill Biden’s husband, and I am Kamala’s running mate,” he said. “Y'all think I’m kidding don’t you?”

Biden’s comment was quickly seized upon by Trump’s campaign and White House officials.

Biden made the attempt at a joke while speaking to a crowd of supporters at an event in Atlanta on Tuesday, marking the first time he visited Georgia since he became the Democratic Party’s nominee. Georgia has not gone in favor of a Democratic candidate since former President Bill Clinton in 1992.

“There aren’t a lot of pundits who would have guessed four years ago that the Democratic candidate for president in 2020 would be campaigning in Georgia on the final week of the election. Or that we would have such competitive Senate races here in Georgia. But we do,“ Biden said. ”Because something is happening here in Georgia and across America.”

The Harris comment came as Republicans have tried to say that Biden, due to his age, would likely step down as president to allow Harris to take over. They have also said that Biden would act as a “Trojan Horse” for the far-left portion of the Democratic Party to take control of the executive branch if Biden elected.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) told Axios this week that she believes Biden would veer left if he is elected.

“I would say all of the Cabinet positions should be filled by progressive Democrats,” Omar told Axios. “We know that the policies we advocate for are most popular with the American people,” she added.
