Former Vice President Joe Biden told reporters in Iowa on Sept. 21 that he didn’t speak to his son Hunter Biden about the latter’s business dealings in Ukraine, then attacked President Donald Trump for his conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money. Well, son of a [expletive]. He got fired,” Biden said about the March 2016 incident at a panel hosted by the Council of Foreign Relations last year.
Joe Biden wasn’t pressed about his statement but said the matter has been probed and no evidence has connected him to any wrongdoing.
Biden said Congress should investigate the conversation Trump had, about which little has been confirmed.
“Why is he on the phone trying to intimidate a foreign leader?” Biden asked. “Depending on what the House finds, he could be impeached, but I’m not making that judgment right now. The House should investigate it.”
Trump took to Twitter to post a video showing Joe Biden dismissing the allegations against him and his son, interspersed with clips of media agencies saying that probes into the matter have suggested conflicts of interest and Biden bragging about getting the prosecutor fired.
Trump, 73, who has repeatedly sparred with Joe Biden, 76, throughout the year, also accused media outlets of focusing on his “routine conversation” with the Ukrainian president while ignoring the situation involving Biden.
“The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, want to stay as far away as possible from the Joe Biden demand that the Ukrainian Government fire a prosecutor who was investigating his son, or they won’t get a very large amount of U.S. money, so they fabricate a story about me and a perfectly fine and routine conversation I had with the new President of the Ukraine,” the president wrote.
“Nothing was said that was in any way wrong, but Biden’s demand, on the other hand, was a complete and total disaster. The Fake News knows this but doesn’t want to report!
“Now that the Democrats and the Fake News Media have gone ‘bust’ on every other of their Witch Hunt schemes, they are trying to start one just as ridiculous as the others, call it the Ukraine Witch Hunt, while at the same time trying to protect Sleepy Joe Biden. Will fail again!”
Citing interviews with more than 12 officials in Ukraine and the United States, Hill reporter John Solomon said that former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and now Zelensky have been trying since the summer of 2018 to give evidence to the Trump administration that may show that Americans were in violation of U.S. law during the administration of former President Barack Obama.
The evidence also reportedly involves attempts by Hunter Biden to make money in Ukraine.
