BALTIMORE  — Baltimore police say local rapper Tyriece Travon Watson, who was known as “Lor Scoota,” has been fatally shot.

Police said in a statement that witnesses reported that 23-year-old Watson was driving when an unknown suspect stepped into the street and opened fire Saturday evening. Police say it appears that the shooting was “targeted.” Police described the suspect as a black male wearing a white bandanna.

Police say Watson was taken from the scene at Harford Road at Moravia Road to a hospital where he died.

Baltimore Councilman Nick Mosby said in a statement that Watson had been at the “Touch The People Pray For Peace in These Streets” charity basketball game at Morgan State University before being shot.

Police are asking the public to help them identify the shooter.

“We have to be tired of this. Can #Scoota be a wake up call for us?” wrote  police spokesman T.J. Smith in a tweet. “He entertained many, now gone, just like that. We are better than this.”

“The unknown suspect stepped into the street and opened fire on the victim,” Smith added, according to CBS Local. “It appears he was doing some things to change his life and use those experiences to help empower other young people in our city of Baltimore,” he added.

Epoch Times contributed to this report, adding Smith’s quotes.
