Nintendo’s popular game “The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker” is set to go full HD this coming Fall, as the Japanese game maker aims to kickstart available games for the new Wii U gaming console.
In addition to Zelda, Nintendo is also re-releasing some of its usual suspects: Super Mario Brothers, Yoshi and Link.
But it has been the Zelda game, first released in 2002, that garnered most attention. Wind Waker, which according to Zelda fans qualifies as one of the top Zelda games (well, maybe outside of “Ocarina of Time” anyway) had a strong reception during its 2002 release and still enjoys very high rankings on game sites such as Metacritic.
[related-left] Nintendo is attempting to strengthen sales of its Wii U gaming console, launched in November, with the re-release of some of its finest games. The gaming company has recently struggled to compete against Sony’s Playstation, Microsoft’s XBox and a slew of new game consoles, such as Ouya TV, Valve’s Steam console and Nvidia’s Project Shield.
The Wii U has reportedly sold less than a million units after launch, and Nintendo is releasing or re-releasing several older titles for the gaming console. It remains to be seen whether The Legend of Zelda: Wind Maker, along with other Nintendo classics, will boost the ailing gaming company.
